Most of resurrection paintings depict Christ as a Godly figure, with rays of light shining upon Him. He is ascending towards heaven and so on. However, in this famous painting by Piero della Francesca, he is portrayed as a kingly figure, with his left leg raised on top of his tomb. He is in full might while the soldiers near the tomb are asleep, as though dead. The triumphant figure of Christ and the ghostly lifeless figure of the soldiers are a perfect juxtaposition of life and death.
